Birth Right - The Book

Birth Right™ – I wrote this book following many years of teaching pre-natal classes and listening to many parents who were frustrated with the lack of information available about the ‘system’. I would often have a group of 10 or more couples, each having a different ‘model of care’, from Birth Centre, to Private Obstetrician, to Team Midwifery, to Case Loading Midwifery etc. For most of them, this was the first exposure they had to the choices available to all pregnant couples. Many of them expressed concerns that they were not happy with their caregiver. Why didn’t we know what was available, early in pregnancy? Why didn’t someone explain what all the choices are? Sadly, for those who were unhappy about their care, it was often too late for them to change caregivers. If you are not happy with your chosen caregiver and place of birth, then sadly this can impact on your labour and birth.

“This book is what women have told me they want. They want honest information. They want facts. They want to be able to find their way around the political maze of childbirth options so that they can enjoy their pregnancy, labour and birth, and have confidence in their choice of caregiver and place of birth.”

“Birth Right™ explains the many questions women need to ask long before their baby arrives. It includes case studies from parents, midwives and obstetricians from hospitals, birth centres and home births – all first-hand experiences that will help you make informed choices in the most important and exciting time of your life. There’s also invaluable advice on how to deal with doctors, health funds, hospitals and family members so that your pregnancy and birth and happy and healthy.”
