Finding the right Doula for you

How do you find a doula? The right doula? A doula who is supportive, well educated and sensitive to your needs? In Susan Ross's book Birth Right there is a comprehensive list of questions you should be asking your doula at the first meeting.

Birth Right doulas undergo comprehensive doula training with Susan, a midwife, educator and trainer with over 30 years experience in pregnancy and birth. Contact Susan at Birth Right on 0419 606 171 or email at susan@birthright.com.au to discuss organising a doula for you.

Following your initial meeting with a Birth Right doula, you will have access to your doula via phone or email throughout your pregnancy. You will have at least 2-3 meetings with your doula prior to labour. She will be with you at home/hospital during labour and birth and will provide an all important post-natal de-brief in your home.

Doula Erika Elliott

My passion is to inspire couples to find their voice, follow their hearts and create a calm and joyful birth experience. This time of growing and nurturing is like no other and deserves to be honoured. To support couples through this time I decided to train as a doula after I had my baby in 2003. I loved that phase of my life, and have been working as a doula ever since. It is what I do with conviction and joy.  I am also the Calmbirth® educator at Birth Right™, a birth photographer, massage therapist and Blessingway facilitator.

Doula Valli Jones

I trained as a doula after the births of my two beautiful children, out of a desire to support women in creating a birth experience that is calm, beautiful, and empowering. The transition into motherhood and family life is a time to be cherished, and deserves as much support as is possible.

The immense JOY in birthing and motherhood, for me, is both the compass and the anchor. It is the strength gained from joy that carries us through our more challenging moments. As a doula, I look forward to being a privileged assistant and witness to many joyous new beginnings.

Doula Christine Leghorn

After the births of my two children, I realised how valuable it can be to have a doula as support during pregnancy and childbirth. I trained as a doula at Birth Right™ soon after so I could offer that opportunity to other families.

Childbirth is an amazing life experience and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to support families during this wonderful time. My aspiration is to encourage couples to feel positive about their births and enjoy their beautiful journey.

Doula Susan Ross

I have been a midwife for over 30 years but offer doula support because I believe it truly allows me to be ‘with woman’. To be her advocate and her protector during pregnancy, labour, birth and post-natally. Every birthing woman deserves a doula to ensure she has the birthing experience that she wants. This service provides continuity for a woman and her partner. I am passionate about making sure women UNDERSTAND their choices and feel empowered about their birthing. I am the owner of Birth Right™, a childbirth educator, HypnoBirthing® Practitioner, trainer, author of the book Birth Right and the mother of two beautiful sons.

 Doula Beck Fraser

I experienced firsthand the invaluable presence of a doula throughout my own pregnancy and the birth of my daughter in 2007. I decided then that it was something I wanted to be able to give back to other women and couples. I know that every woman, with the right support and outlook, can have a truly wonderful, empowering and positive birth experience. My passion is to see couples create for themselves the beautiful birth they would love to have.

As a doula, I feel privileged to provide a safe and trusted space for families as they embark on this special time in their lives. I am also a HypnoBirthing® Practitioner and professional photographer.
